David Smulyan is an accomplished business executive with a proven track record of enhancing bottom line results. He has over twenty years of experience in marketing, business development, operational improvement and strategic planning. David has held leadership positions at several New York Stock Exchange companies and now provides his expertise to organizations as an external advisor.
Since 2001, Mr. Smulyan has been the President of Optimal Solutions Squared, LLC. He has worked on a variety of strategic and operational projects for Fortune 50 companies and served as a trusted advisor to smaller publicly held and privately owned organizations.
Prior to founding Optimal Solutions Squared, David served as Vice President of Strategic Planning and Business Development for Provantage, a $1.2 billion pharmacy benefit management company. During his tenure, he negotiated a strategic alliance with an internet-based pharmacy and managed the due diligence process in the eventual sale of Provantage to Merck.
Before joining Provantage, Mr. Smulyan spent four years at The General Electric Company in the healthcare division. As one of seven founding members of a start-up consulting venture, he helped to create the initial product/service offerings. He later managed and executed delivery of consulting engagements as well as negotiated two strategic alliances to enhance service offerings and revenue.
Prior to his time at General Electric, David spent nearly a decade at two different health care companies. In various corporate planning and development management roles, he led teams evaluating start-up/new business ventures and providing internal consulting services to corporate subsidiaries.
Mr. Smulyan holds a B.A. in Economics from Washington University in St. Louis, and an M.B.A. from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management. He and his family live in the northern suburbs of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
David is an accredited associate of the Institute for Independent Business. Because of this accreditation, David has access to 5,000 experienced executives worldwide from every type of business imaginable.
Mr. Smulyan is very active in local community and civic organizations. He is a board member of several not-for-profit organizations, a Commissioner on the Village of Bayside Planning Commission, a member of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce, and a baseball coach in the Glendale Little League.
